how much is too wide?

Ok here is my question, can I fit 285/75R16 on the stock 16X7 rims? Or should I go with a 255/85R16? right now my ranger is stock but my plan is to level the front end...
 
check out the stock rims thread...buddy had a good explanation there on rim sizes.
