I was at a show where I think Max D snapped the axle in half. Literally, broke the axle in half, right down the center of the housing! It was pretty freaking awesome.

Yup, 5 tons or hybrids. I've seen quite a few of them break, have a spindle let go, destroy a gear set etc. 5ton may sound big, but throw 66's at them with 1500HP and your back down to d35 and 33 type setup. Somethings gotta let go eventually.

i think they are upto 1735hp or 1425hp. i dont know the difference, but there are two different ratings for all monster trucks.

monster trucks run a zf axle now. some still run 5 tons but not the militarty type. the zf axles are a planetary hub type to keep from snapping them off from the torque and massive tires.

yea I was gonna say i was pretty sure none of the modern MT's run toploaders anymore. They are all pretty much planetary Tractor axles.

My Dana 35 would work fine for a 66 in. tire. My 760x joints with welded clips, and Jeep hubs would put the tire in it's place. :icon_rofl:

Maybe with a doubler and 5.13s you could slowly let out the clutch and creep real slow...if the truck could even stand on its own without the wheel bearings failing or the spindle snapping off the steering knuckle, balljoints sheering off, etc.

Most all of the monster trucks use either a ZF or ZF based axle. 5 ton rockwells went out with the 80s on monster trucks. Yes it is correct all the modern truck with these newer axles use planetary hubs and a conventional front load diff like a 9 inch. The planetary hub reduces the torque on the axle from gear reduction allowing most of the reduction to take place at the hub. Heck I'm putting rockwells under my Ranger.
