i have windows vista basic....not bad...once i turn on the puter...i have to enter a damn password....is there a way that i can turn it off and just get to the main desk top screen
That's not something you want to do on a networked computer. Which includes any always-on internet service.
It's also not something you want to do with kids in the house.

my buddy has vista and he does not have to enter a password at startup. so there must be a way to do it. Have you went to the control panel and then to accounts and looked around in there? Thats how you would do it with XP, but vista may be a little different.

Nope. As an IT guy, the sky ALWAYS falls on operational servers at 4:30 on Friday.

4:58 is more exact. That way you can get paged on your way to the truck or on your way home.
