I just switched from a 94 extended cab 2 dr. to a 99 ext cab 4 door ranger. I really hate the interior light to come on when I open the door ( I tend to sit with the door open a lot) but I still want the light to be functional when I need it. On my old 94, I did the standard fix that I guess I have done on every vehicle i've ever owned - I removed the switch, capped the wires & plugged the hole in the door frame.

BUT.... I couldn't even FIND the switch on the new(er) truck. Thanks to this fine forum, I read in another post that the switch is in the latch (man thats typical for Ford). Anyone out there have a relatively easy fix for this problem that doesn't require surgery on the wiring harness at the door hinge?

Thanks!

Now that the switch is now part of the door's latch assembly (Ford's finer idea). You could get into your light in the ceiling and put a switch the ground side of the light(look for a screw that passes through a brass colored contact that goes to a ground). You may have to cut or bend it, connect the wires to both sides, 1. to the seperated ground strap and 2. to the light side. Or just go to the grounded side of the light and take the screw all the way out and put your wire from the switch on the ground strap and the other side of the switch to a ground down below the dash. I did that with my 92 and it worked pretty good.

If you want to unplug the switch like you did on your '94 its not that hard, remove the door panel (4 screws), peel back the plastic liner behind the door panel, reach your hand in the hole and unplug the switch. then just tape the liner back on and your good to go :icon_thumby:
