I noticed the Gas gauge on my ranger is very erratic even after filling up the tank it does not alway read full.
The dealer I got it from replaced the sending unit any suggestions
I checked the electrical connection at the tank( that was a pain).
any help with this would be great

really....to be honest in all the rbv's ive owned (9 of them) ive never had a accurate gas gauge, the first truck i replaced the sending unit, fuel pump, the whole 9 yards, checked all the grounds and whatnot, it was jsut erratic and tempermental, i quit relying on the gauge and went by mileage.....i know it doesnt help much, but just know u are NOT alone in this issue

Thanks thats were I am at now just reseting the mileage everytime I get gas
just wondered if it was my truck or a common problem
other than that I love the truck so far

Ford fuel gauges typically rely on a brass float in the tank... which often develops a pinhole leak and fills slightly with gas, causing erratic readings.

Long ago I got into the habit of using the fuel gauge for nothing more than a rough idea of what's in the tank, and that only when it was on the level. When I fill the tank, I reset the trip odometer, and I know what sort of mileage to expect because I write down on the gas receipt the mileage and calculate it out to see what my fuel economy is. I have every gas slip for my Ranger from the day it rolled off the dealership lot. I can even tell you without a doubt that twice I've had 5 gallons siphoned off of a tank, which resulted in the purchase of a locking fuel cap.
