I found out my water pump was leaking so i ordered a new one on my way home....I whatched my temp guage and it was very slightly higher than usual...then the truck died....i checked the oil and it was foamy....there was very little coolant in the radiator. Could i have blown a head gasket or is there some way that coolant could get to the oil from the water pump???
Thanks Alot

Did the oil have a milkshake consistancy/color? Did it have a hint of the sweet smell of antifreeze?

Antifreeze cannot get to the oil from the water pump unless you'd crack the block. It can get to the oil from a blown head gasket or a cracked/warped head. If you really do have antifreeze in the oil and the motor stopped running, it's time to replace the motor. Once antifreeze gets in the oil it can trash the bearings and such inside the motor. Nothing short of a full-on rebuild can repair the motor then.

So i cant just replace the head gasket and water pump then change the oil???
It will still start back up if that means anything. i moved it 10 feet after it shut off.

Ive only had the motor for a month and it supposedly had 88,000 on it.
And it did have the milkshake color

Nope. Check the bottom end out completely before you dump any money into fixing this engine. Antifreeze will wash out bearings better than just about anything else. The 3.0 is a hearty motor but if you overheat any engine and pop the heads or head gaskets it should be checked over completely before you waste money on it.
BTW is this the second engine in this truck that has overheated and cooked? If it is, you should be checking everything out under that hood because there may be something that was missed when that engine went in.

Oh, and it may not be just a head gasket, it could be the head as well, in which case changing just the gasket will not fix the problem.

I went through something like this with my choptop. I got it from a guy who cracked the passenger side head, big crack right through the side that shot hot oil onto the exhaust manifold, which ignited and melted some wiring. Flushed the oil system out, new oil, new wire, spare head off of another 2.9 and I was back in business.... for about a week until the drivers side head went (I had a mysterious coolant leak). Swapped that head and promptly cracked both during a trailride. Bottom end had seemed pretty sound, but I wasn't about to try to put another head on that motor without a teardown and rebuild, so I swapped it out for another 2.9. I had spent way too much money trying to patch up that turd of an original 2.9, the previous owner abused the truck so much I should have known better than to try to patch it back up.

One other thing...this started TODAY...i checked the oil yesterday and it was fine....and there wasnt any antifreeze, it was straight water because the water pump was leakin like crazy so i was just fillin it with water.... and like i said before.. the motor never overheated.
Does any of this matter???
Thanks

water isn't really any better than antifreeze when it comes to eating out bearings. Ever see what a lil water in an axle can do?

it COULD be a lower intake gasket as well.. my buddies did the same thing... coolant in the oil an the lower intake gasket blew .. got lucky.. only problem we have now is every once in a while at idle its rough..
