what are the best plugs to buy for the 94 4.0 motor? How good are plugs like bosch platinum 4's or denso iridiums? thanks

Hi again,

Use the original motorcraft platinum plugs. I tried the bosch and melted the electorde up into the plugs. The spark out of the coil pack is too high for them. I did a lot of research on it, and the motorcraft are the best.

Most Fords for some reason do not like Bosche plugs, stay with either Autolight or Motorcraft, they are both good. I have heard of the Bosches also coming apart inside the engine, which is not a good thing for a spark plug to do.

stay away from bosch. Ive heard a lot more negative then positive about them in fords for some reason. I would either get motorcraft or ac delco.

I don't know anything about iridium plugs, but NGK is pretty good. I run NGKs in my motorcycle, four wheeler and the lawn equiptment. That said we run Autolites in the vehicles.

For the Autolite vs Motorcraft, they are the same plug. Motorcraft plugs are made by Autolite. My truck had Bosches in it when I bought it, after pulling the out a few fell apart in my hands, that's never happened with the Autolites or NGKs.

use autolite plugs, the bosch plugs are definite purpose plugs.they were, near as i can tell, intended for use as fishing line sinkers and they work very well when fishing the bottom.

Mine did the same with the Bosch plugs. Either motorcraft or I use the Autolite double platinums for the past few years and they seem to work just as well as the motorcraft.

So are platinum plugs required on our 4.0's ?
Reason I ask ,is because I bought my truck a few years ago , and it had the original plugs .
Platinums .
I replaced them with regular autolites 745's .
The only problem I have had is that the 2nd plug on the passenger side , always burns the plug beside the ground electrode , or sometimes burn the ground electrode off entirely , after about 6 months .
I am wondering if I have a bad coil pack or a bad wire .
I have looked under the hood at nite , and have no arrant sparking .
Any one have any ideas?
