I am trying to fix my GFs Toyota T100 and came across this for reading codes without a scanner.

Would this work on the Ranger?

Thanks
Jeremy

Not on a 2002.

OBD-I required a method of running self tests without a scanner. OBD-II makes no such requirement.

On a 1988, you can short the STI to ground and read codes off the check engine light. But it's not identical to the Toyota procedure. Just analogous.

It doesn't work on OBD-II Toyotas either. The TOY1 connector (the one with TE1 and E1) was phased out in 1995. I have the last model year in my Prizm.

MAKG - Thanks for the info! Maybe a minor correction though. My GF's truck (the one I am trying to diagnose in the NON-RBV forum) has the TE1 and E1 connectors and it is a 96. Maybe it was phased out in 96 not 95?? You would know better than I though

Thanks again!

Remember that companies produce the next model year starting late the previous year. You can check the exact month/year on the Federal tag. (placed on the drivers' side door jam, usually.)

You can read the codes on the old toyotas by shorting two of the contacts in the diagnostic conecter and then counting the flashes on the dash. can't remember which two though. I'm sure someone on here knows though.
