You went to Hawaii and didn't leave Honolulu? You missed out.

I much prefer Hilo.

As usual, very nice photos.

Thanks!!!

We will be taking a day trip to the Big Island next week. This is our sixth visit, and so far Oahu is our favorite. We have visited Maui & Kauai so far,
I'll let know know if I agree with you about Hilo.....

Rumors are that currently Kilauea is really F'ing up the air quality down there.

I was last in Lahaina while it still was a very sleepy fishing village (in the 80s). VERY nice, but it just can't be the same anymore.

If you can get up to the top of Mauna Kea, it's pretty amazing, especially if you can talk someone at Keck to let you in. Imagine your camera with a lens 35 feet across... twice.

But beware there are REAL altitudes there. Take your time going up, and pause at 8000 feet for a few hours like all the astronomers do. Or else, you'll leave your lunch behind. This is the best temperate site in the world for astronomy, and there is quite a lot up there, not just the two Keck domes.
