Over the course of a week:

1. Truck won't start on first crank when I come back for lunch from work. Fires on the second try.

2. Leaving work a few days later, same thing.

3. Next morning, dead in the water. No pressure in the rail and no noise from the pump.

I had one of my friends help me pull the bed today. There was at least a table spoon of corrosion between the harness and the sending unit. Cleaned everything out, got a little fuel in the rail but not much, and still no firing. Started cleaning the harness connector a little more and realized there wasn't much left to the receiving side to Pink/Black (posi wire to the pump).

Parts dept at the nearest Ford dealer said they could have a new connector the next day for $50. The thing was already fvecked, so I cut it off and massaged four female crimp blade connectors into "o"s and rigged it up (in doing this, the suspect wire pulled out of the back of the connector with no resistance!). It fired on the first try!

Lessons learned:

1. Don't buy a pump until you're sure it's the pump. I'm glad I waited, the fuel pump was fine.

2. Pulling the bed is preferable to dropping the tank. I snapped half of the bed bolts, but I can replace all of those + fab new clips for $15 at Menards (the dealership wants $160 for 6 new clips/bolts, ouch). Have fun trying to make new tank straps after you "attempt" to remove them.

3. Trucks without beds look bad*ss. Regardless, you can't go driving around the metro without tail lights though.

FYI, picking up the new pigtail tomorrow to keeping it legit. I still have to drive places like work, dentist appointments, etc before then though ;)
