It's a stock 2.9. GT's got a sporty appearance package and that's about it. Gorgeous and rare, but not much of a barn burner performance wise.

2.9, 5spd, 4.10's if im not mistaken, may not be a barn burner but its plenty peppy for what it is

you havnt seen many 2.9's then. a 2.3 power truck might as well be power by hot-dogs.

Something must be wrong with your 2.9 then... My dads reg cab shortbed ranger 2wd 2.3 5speed and 3.73s didnt stand a chance against my buddies extra cab 4x4 2.9 5 speed with 3.73s and bigger tires, that truck was quick.

Must be fox body Mustang 2.3Ls.
2.9Ls will walk on 2.3Ls all day. I've been beaten by a worn out stock '86 305 Camaro, I have a really hard time believing that a N/A 2.9L beat a 5.0L Fox Body.
If I could have gotten 50 more hp out of a GT PCM, I wouldn't have thought twice about ditching my MAF PCM.
I've walked the shit out of my friend's '96 2.3L several times. I have an A4LD auto, he has a M5OD-R1 manual. I will also give him an advantage and take off from idle.
I have walked on a SOHC '95 4.6L T-Bird on take off, but he probably would have got me on the long run. I lost to this same car w/ a Chevy 262 in a Grand Prix on take off and long run, badly.

ya there must be something wrong with your ranger my 2.9 can do like 85 in 3rd red lineing at 6000 rpms with a full load of junk in the bed it has 31's and 3.73's
my gt tore the hell out of rice burners everyday. that 2.9 has more to it than most give it credit for!!! Also my buddies 2.3 in a mazda b-series had to scream to keep up without me winding the 2.9 no futher than 4500!!! thats not even touching peak hp if memory serves right!!!

I'd love to have the red one, although it would get a new paint job asap. Can't afford it though, and I wouldn't be able to go to Alabama either.

My 2.9L with 300 and some odd thousand will actually walk my colorado with a 2.9L 4 cylinder and a 5sp.
.....and that colorado has smoked more then a few 2.3L Rangers.
Now my nephew has a 87 Shortbox with a 2.9L with some goodies in it, 2.8 pistons, cam, some other little things, and with 4.10 gears and a 5sp it will walk all over just about any V6 and 5.0L F150's.

How good of gas mileage does a gt get?
Wicked_Sludge

but the body kits give better aerodynamics, and make them go like 1000 miles per minute, and that downforce just cuts right through the wind and makes them use like next to no gas, they get like 123 miles per quart of gas. those trucks are so worth like a milli easy. :icon_rofl: :icon_rofl: :icon_rofl: :icon_rofl: im sorry im retarded

You'd use 122 gallons of fuel in one hour! :)

123 miles per quart = 492 miles per gallon.
1000 miles per minute = 60,000 miles per hour.
60,000/492=121.9 gallons per hour.
still pretty good considering the speed....the SR-71 blackbird uses about 8,000 gallons per hour and it "only" goes about 3,000 miles an hour.
I've had two 2.9s. They are dam strong. Actually, I still have one. I'm thinking about how to mate it to the Fuller transmission in my skoolie so I can get some real power in there.
If that doesn't work I'll keep it as a back-up in case the motor in my pool pump dies.
