I'm dead set on getting a ranger 4.0l 2k1 or newer with manual tranny. Those are the absolute musts but I also want 4 doors, steering tilt, pw, pdl, and cc. I have found a few trucks that come close to being what I am looking for but never exactly and I have been checking the local free photo ads and $1 truck trader for about 8 months. Well I'm sick of looking for THE PERFECT truck and am willing to settle for something very close to what I want. Is it possible to buy a truck with no cruise control and have one installed? How much would it cost to have power windoes installed? Is it possible to change a fixed steering column to an adjustable one, and if so how nuch? PW, CC, and an adjustable steering wheel are luxuries I would really like to have but most manuals don't have full power everything, especially the 4.0. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Anyone have any help to offer? I know that pw and pdl can be done fairly easily but how difficult are they to install? And can you install tilt steering without too much difficulty? I have searched for a thread that explains the installation of each of the things I listed and nothing covers it step by step. Are there any threads out there or links you know about?

My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
tilt steering ....... as easy as changing the steering column.

any truck 2k1 or newer will already be pre-wired for windows, locks, and mirrors. you can have cruise control added ..... out guy here charges the chevy dealer $300. There is no such thing as the perfect used truck, but a 2k1 XLT should have all those options.

Ok I found my truck!!!! I'm going down to buy it later today. I got a SMOKIN deal. 2k2 with 42k miles. Its an XLT 4.0 manual with tilt, cc, it's my prefered color maroon, and it has a tow package. All of that for $8,000. Only options I am going to add are PW, PM, and PDL and maybe the auto dimming lights and mirror. If I went down to a junkyard and found a ranger with power everything could I just swap the doors? Is that difficult? How much time would it take to transfer over all of the electronics for PW, PDL, and PM? Keep in mind that I don't know much about electricity but my buddy is pretty well knowledged in that stuff and he will be helping me.

Keep your doors.

When you are at the junk yard you will need to pull the following stuff.

- Door panels with electric switches
- Door harness
- lock actuator (inside door end, lock and handle pushrods attached)
- window regulator
- power mirrors
- underdash entire harness (see below)

I recommend going to a junk yard where you can pull the stuff out yourself so you can see the gigantic project you are about to start.

"any truck 2k1 or newer will already be pre-wired for windows, locks, and mirrors. you can have cruise control added ." - Not on a 2001 truck. If your truck is prewired you probably will not need the underdash harness.
