Is there a way I cant tell what gears I have in my 94 4.0 Ranger cause the little tag on the axle had been ripped off? I can get up to 45 in second gear and it at about 3000 rpms and when im cruising at 65 its not even at 2000 rpms. It seems to be sluggish for a 4.0, I had a 97 4.0 5pd with 31's and 3.73 and it was much faster than this one. All advice would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

check the door tag. it'll give you an axle code you can look up in your owners manual. i believe the door tag also gives the ratio right on it too.

or you could count how many times the driveshaft turns for each turn of your tire

hope this helps

is it 2wd? Its very possible that it has 3.08s, thats a pretty common ratio. To be sure you can check the code on your door tag like 86isuzu suggested, and look up the ratio for it here

1)Door tag as suggested.

2)Count revolutions as suggesed

3) Look at the tag that should be on the axle attached to one of the diff cover bolts.
