it should be a mechanical pump, therefore you won't hear it.check the fuel filter, should be at front of carb where fuel line goes in.follow that line back and you will see the pump, check for cracked rubber hose on inlet of fuel pump allowing pump to suck air.

What engine do you have? If you have carb, the fuel pump is mechanical and you wouldn't hear it.

thank you

i have the 2.8 v6 4x4. i kinda thought that may be a mechanical pump, just couldn't find anything to verify it. thanks for responding so quickly. i'll check that filter and follow those lines, i was working on the brake lines, i must have bumped something loose. maybe even knocked some build up off the inside of the lines clogging that filter. i don't know, have to use the process of elimination i guess. thanks

The pump is on the front left side of the block and is a little fiddly to change. They are fairly reliable though and rarely fail without prior symptoms. Check the filter in the front of the carb.
