axle shaft seals on hp 44

I need to know if the hp dana 44 had axle seals in between the u-joint and axle housing. i can get pics if needed. but when I took the axle apart there were no seals there and i need to know if there are supposed to be any.

Axle seals are inside the diff housing itself (assuming straightaxle).

If it is a straight axle the seals are actually removed from within the diff housing.
