i have never really bought a whole junkyard car but i went to my local pnp today after work and saw a complete Merkur XR4Ti. The car is complete, minus the original rims and I thought i recognized it from something i read here. so i checked and sure enough it was for the 2.3l turbo swap. i was wondering what i should offer the yard for it. any help would be great. i guess he just got the car today and hadn't decided what he wanted for it. any advice will be put to good use. thanks

A whole car will need to go for more than its scrap value. I paid 400 for my parts truck. It had some parts missing, the only good body part was one fender. I think that 350 would be a good starting price. I would not recommend more than 500 for the final price. That is just my pinion. Also, make sure that the deal is as is. I got screwed on mine. He cut the Cats out between when we made the deal and I picked it up. I did not specifically ask about the cats thoug so I let myself get screwed on that one.

Well I know we can't buy an entire car from a wrecker once they get it so if you can then I'd go for it...but pop the hood and make sure the motor AND turbo are intact...many cars are stripped of these parts...

And the turbo heads are prone to cracking so have the head tested unless you can get ahold of the previous owner to find out why they junked it...maybe body damage or rust...or a cracked head...

Good find if it's all there and you can use the motor...:icon_thumby:
