I want to put a 4 barrel carb on a 2.9 just wonder if it has been done before. I am building a 4x4 race truck in a 2.9 2.4 class .

It would take a custom intake, as far as I know they haven't made a carb one for a 2.9. Offenhouser (sp?) did make one for the 2.8, which I think is in your displacement range and will bolt up to the 2.9 tranny.

Yes, Offenhauser made one or two intakes for the 2.8 and carbs....don't know about the 2.9 though.

There is also no carbed distributor for a 2.9. Without the computer being fully functional you would have no advance.
Build a 2.5 four cyl. You can make more hp and torque with off the shelf parts.

...
Make your own with the 2.8 and 2.9 distributor parts, have the curve set with a distributor machine.

this was discussed at great length in the old forums. As mentioned the biggest problem is the distributor, made more confusing by the fact that the cam on the 2.8 turns in the opposite direction to the 2.9. You would have to compare distributors to see if it's even possible to exchange them physically. I guess you could always change the gears which would solve the rotational issue. Let us know what you find out as I don't think the question was resolved in the old forums. Don't forget the oil pump drive also has to function.
