What are you looking to accomplish in a body lift? IMO I think there gay. They dont provide any functional improvements like suspension movement. You going for looks, or bigger tires?

More room for bigger tires.
More room for suspension movement
More room for engine swaps
More room to work on whatever engine that came stock (big help when I Durasparked mine later)
Keeps the center of gravity lower to help with handling
Cheap compared to a suspension lift (in some areas flex isn't that big of a deal, we don't all have trails readily available that require it anyway)
Since it is pretty much about the same job to put on a 3" as a 2", I went ahead and did the 3". Mine was pretty straightforward to put on but mine is a '85, I haven't regretted it since.

As stated above, there are many good reasons for a body lift. It allowed me to fit 2 transfer cases under my truck without having to cut away part of my center body beam.
You might want to reconsider and revise your opinion, as many people with a wealth of off-road knowledge and highly capable rigs disagree with it.

I put in a 3" body lift on my truck. Not too hard was able to get it done in a weekend. The only thing i had to do was, buy some hose and extend my filler necks for the tanks.
Other then that its straight forward.
Spray the bolts down with some sort of liquid wrench type thing about a week before you do it. It will help alot.
The only down side I find is the ride isnt as smooth as it was before. But thats a trade off I was willing to make.

On my '94, I didn't need to extend the filler, I did have to buy an extension for the shifter though since I have a manual.

Wow I totally forgot about that. I didnt have to extend the shifter, but i did have to cut a little bit out of the tranny tunnel so the shifter would go into 1st,3rd, and OD. I also have a FM145 in there though.

I had a 3" body lift and me and my Dad just recently took it out and cut the blocks all down to a little over 1", like 1 1/4". We didn't need to extend or shorten anything cutting it down, the guys who put in the 3" body lift did a crap job and left the filler hoses too short and it actually pulled the box over and out of line, also my shifter was very short.
I run 31's with just the body lift on my 87. Clearance is great in the rear but since my front springs are bagged so it sags and is about 2" away right now from the fender. I have some lift coils on the way though that'll lift it 1.5" over stock height so about 2-3" from the height now.

I did extend my manual transfer case lever, but I didn't have to touch my automatic shifter.
I actually had a problem with my truck kicking the pump off for no reason when I filled up the fuel tank. I haven't had it do it once after the lift, I didn't touch anything with it.
