I am lookin at a 4x4 V8 Ranger Sitting on 33s.. The owner
Sad that it is a Rebuilt 89 Mustang 5.0 n he has it bolted
to a C-5 Ranger trans.. How strong is the C-5 (V6) Trans??

He Said the trans is leakin, he said that the trans is newer..
Then he told me that the "Pump Seal" is whats bad..

I just wanna know some ways to check to see if that is all
it is.. I dont want to buy it n have to put a good Trans in..

Can you guys PLEASE help me out with this one???

Thanx,
Rob

looking in the tech library, the C5 was only availiable for a few years. In doing a online search, the c5 is a c4 with a lockup TC. It was only produced from 82 to 86.

Couldn't tell you about the seal, as I hate autos and don't work on any.

The C4 and RBV C5 are essentially the same thing. The main case is identical as well as the internals. The difference is the converter and valve body. To make it mate to a V8 get a C4 bellhousing, converter and valvebody. Where is the trans leaking from, bellhousing area? The only options there are the pump seal or the seal for the input. Reguardless for that repair you will be pulling the trans. If you are lucky and he didn't toast it from low fluid or pressure loss you'll be fine pulling the pump are replacing the seal.
