Spindle Bearing

Wasn't sure where to put this...

Anyone have a part # for the spindle bearing on the drivers side? No one seems to know what I'm talking about when I call. I have a book that shows it as the "Spindle Bearing" so I have no idea what to tell them.

The might call it an axle shaft bearing.

try getting a picture of the bearing from a repair manual blow up,then take it in to the parts store and make them keep looking until they find it.parts counter personnel arent made equal so if you talk to a dummy then ask for someone else or go to another store.also make sure the stub shaft isent worn out where the spindle bearing rides.

I dont know how some people get jobs at part stores :buttkick:

After you tell them its the spindle bearing specify it’s the bearing on the inside of the spindle that the stub shaft rides on. If they still don’t know what it is ask them how they got there job. I have done it a few times and walked out :temper:

or you could give them this part number and have them cross it to that of a brand they carry:

CLICKY

EDIT: huh, napas site is a little tweaked. click on "axle shaft bearing - front wheel" HERE and it goes to the page above, which says "Differential Outer Bearing - Rear Axle" on the top. same part number though...so its probably the spindle bearing. :dunno:

spindle bearings are a pretty low-wear item, even a cheapo bearing will probably last a long while.

if you want top-o-de-line, go with timken (napas top line brand).

i never checked them after i bought my truck and one of them was dried up and ruined my stub shaft on that side.i was lucky enough to have a spare shaft in a parts truck.i've been checking them ever since and i like mud/water so they get noticably contaminated when i have reason to get in there and look.they don't have much of a seal and are easy to get to when the rotor is off WTH?

So I tore it down today and got it fixed up but I still have another problem.

When I lock the hubs I get a nice clicking sound from the left side. Also, when I had the spindle off I noticed that I can pull/push the axle in and out but have no idea if that should have any play in it at all?!

When I get a chance I was thinking of swapping the hubs to see if still get the noise or not. Sound like a good call?

clicking sound when the hub is not locked.....almost like a striped out ractchet sound?......and go's away when the hub is locked?

if that is the case it will be in the red circled section of your hub guts. the hub bearing, may have gotten hot and melted the plastic POS race, or the clip could have come off...fix this ASAP or you will be doing wheel bearing's,bearing,the spindle bearing again. As the clicking sound is the hub drive gear griding against the axle shaft splines.creating all kinds of neat metal chips.

if your going to replace hubs, get the jeep ones. as they replaced the plastic POS with a bronze internal needle bearing assmebly.
