I know there are several posts on this but haven't found my answer in them. 96 ranger with 4.0. I replaced the thermostat and now it runs in normal range of temp gauge but still no heat. I assume the blend door is the one behind glove box? It opens only when selector is on "off" or "max a/c". The vaccum line on this door extends to the valve on the heater hoses so the valve only opens in the same two positions. If I manually close the valve on the heater hoses it still doesn't get hot. Are these the correct times for door and valve to open? Maybe I have 2 problems and need to flush heater core?
Also the a/c compressor comes on sometimes when the selector is not on a/c. Is that normal? I unplugged DC wire to compressor so it stays off and heat still doesn't get hot.
Hope someone can help...
Thanks

How did you actually get to the thermostat to replace it? Mines got a bundle of wires and a metal piece over one of the bolts, no way i can get it out without removing the starter, and whatever the metal thing goes to..

Sorry for jacking your thread by the way. :D

Mine's a 96 w/ 4.0 and I removed the air intake and the drive belt. No problem getting to the bolts.

Mines a '93 3.0, must be different. Ill figure it out Tuesday night, I've got the day off from school/work because of fishing season :D
