I changed my air filter on my 94 2.3, and noticed some sort of sensor sticking into the side of the air filter housing, anyone know what this is??

the small sensor down in the lower half of the air box is the intake air temp sensor. The MAF is attached to the upper half of the box.

I'm asking because I accidentally broke the end of it off, so I ended up taking it completely out...Truck seems to run fine without it. What exactly does it do, and will it hurt the truck?

I don't think I have that sensor on mine then, unless it's the one closer to the throttle body?

I think it may only be on 94 and earlier, I believe in 95 they went to a canister style filter that may have the sensor somewhere else? I don't know how much that sensor will affect, but I'm sure you could find one cheap in a junk yard if you notice any problems. The only problems I think that it would cause is just incorrect air temps getting to the computer and possibly a mistake in the fuel air mixture? Not really sure.

might as well get another one from either a junkyard, or theyre actually pretty cheap new from a parts store. The ECU uses that sensor to help map the air fuel ratio so it runs correctly.
