No fifth gear

New to the site. I just got 1993 Ranger - 2wd, 4 cylinder, 5-speed, 115K. Freebie from family. Only problem is it won't go into fifth gear. No other tranny problems noticed. I haven't pulled the tranny yet, thought I would ask first. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can replace the 5th gear and everything without removing the trans.

I have the parts if you need some.
 
Thanks for the advice. I have some other projects first. I will open the tranny and look at the gear and get back with you if needed.
 
Sounds like you may have have a roll pin back out of the shifter fork.

Not if he still has reverse.

As for replacing stuff with the trans installed, while you technically can do that, it will be A LOT easier and will leak far less if you pull the transmission. By the time you get that far in, you don't have all that much further to get the whole thing out.
 
You're right I was thinking of a different trans!
