Hey guys, I just got a sweet set of rims that I really like, they are 15x8. I plan on a 350+ bhp outcome on my truck, I was looking for the widest rubber I could fit on these guys..
I was looking at these http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?tirebrand=Hankook&tiremodel=Ventus+ST+RH06 in 295/50/15, im told that they wouldnt be safe to run on my 15x8 rims... Any thoughts?
I really like the style of rubber in the low profile v shape

those tires are over 11.5" wide. you need to keep your tires within (at the most) 2" of your rim width.

+1 you would probably be ok if it wasnt a 50 series (like a 70 or higher would be ok)but i definitely wouldnt put them on an 8'' wheel. a 10'' should be about right.

I couldn't find those EXACT same tires on the Hankook corporate site, but they did have the Ventus H101 in a 295/50-15.

According to the fitment chart, the ABSOLUTE NARROWEST rims you can fit them to is an 8" rim. See link:

http://www.hankooktireusa.com/product/H101.pdf

"Allowable" rim widths are 8-10 inches, with the "measuring rim" being 9.5"

"Measuring rim" is the "ideal" rim width that the Mfgr recommends.

So you could do it and be technically OK as per Hankook's own recommendation. What you'll probably find is if you run it at the recommended inflation pressure on the label inside your doorjamb (what, 35 PSI from Ford?) is you will see "crown wear" in that the center of the tire will wear much faster than the edge, due to the sidewalls being pinched in.

You'd probably have to air down to 27-28 PSI or so to get them to wear evenly across the whole tread face (guessing).

Note that on the chart above, Hankook makes a 275/60-15 that is IDEAL for an 8" rim.

But, it's also 27.9 inches tall, versus 26.6 for the 295/50, so that's going to change your ride height and gearing....
