No Tachometer

I just bought a 2000 Ford Ranger and it doesn't have a
tachometer, is a there an easy way to install an after market one?
Also what about an after market cruise control?

Hey, welcome to the Family :icon_cheers: I aksed the dealer about installing cruise on mine, can't remember how much they quoted me, but it was a lot, $1200.00 maybe...
 
Another option is to get an instrument panel with a tach in it out of another ranger or explorer and swap it in to your truck. It bolts in and there isnt too much to do as far as the wiring is concerned IIRC.

who needs cruise when you can just cut a broom handle in half and wedge it between the seat and gas pedal? there is usually a place on the negative side of the coil or coil pack where you can plug in a tach(i dont think they are routed through the pcm on newer ones, are they?). then run power and light and ground and what not. ford has tach's on most, so you should be able to put one on. i put an aftermarket on my old '86, but that was an '86

umm, yeah, I guess you could do that. personally, I feel the tach is a luxury item, I never had a vehicle with one before.
 
it was a joke. i hope you know that..... tachs are easy to live without, but they sure are nice to have, especially when troubleshooting (it starts to sputter around 1200rpm, or its idling at 900rpm., and so on.)
 
IIRC all the ECUs for the 2.3, 2.5 and obviously the 3.0 and 4.0 since 1996 have a pin thats labled "Tachometer" on the pin diagram. So I am pretty sure that the Tach is run throught the PCM/ECU. I am positive abou this though so correct me if I am wrong.

you want cruise??? had an aftermarket/ford cruise on my 92---varied like 15 mph on flat ground down the highway... i ripped it out and it is all on a shelf in the garage.

Where would I find just the instrument panel with the tach in it? And about how much do they go for?
 
Try www.car-parts.com great place, you can search all over the country and then some.

There used to be a guy up in Indianapolis IN named Mike Cossey who ran Cossey automotive- he had cruise kits and I bought about a dozen over the years and installed them on all kinds of different vehicles They all worked perfectly and looked great too. Unfortunately last time I looked up his number I came up empty handed.
