Hi, I was running my Ranger the other day and I looked at the fuel gage and noticed it read full, at first I didn't take any notice to it and thought it was ok. It's been two days, the gage hasn't gone down, and I've put a lot of miles on it. When I start the engine the needle dips a little, then goes up to full again. I checked the fuses but everything checked out ok there and besides the gage wouldn't move if the fuse was gone. Even when I shut the truck off the gage stays at full, I'm going to have to take the float assembly out of the tank and just was wondering if it could be any other problem before I do that much work to it, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

my truck had the same problem but with the opposite fuel gage reading at all times. i ended up just replacing the sending assembly with the fuel pump in it all together. The thing that seems to go on the units is the switch that sends the current up to the gage (the part where the float arm attaches). It might be worth it just replace the sending unit cause its bound to go at one time or another, along with the fuel pump, especially for older trucks like ours. they're not to expensive on jc whitney.

Hi, a newbie here and I was searching for my problem and came across this post.

I have a 1993 Ranger with similar fuel gage problems. When I start the fuel gage pegs to full then over 15 minutes it will drop below empty. Regardless of the amount of fuel in the tank.

So, I bought a new sending unit and fuel pump but before I placed it in the tank I ran a test. With new unit set to full it would register full then creep slowly back towards empty. With the new unit set to empty it registered empty not full like the original unit.

Is this a sending unit problem? Gage or this Fuel Level Dampening Module I see in the manual?

Thank you and I look forward to being a part of TRS.
