2.9 to 4.0 computer swap

When doing a 2.9 to 4.0 swap you are supposed to use the wiring harness from the truck and the engine and computer from the the 4.0 right?

What if you used the wiring harness from the 2.9 and spliced it into the engine harness from the 4.0

Which computer would you use?

Who has done the swap with an 87 ranger and 93 explorer or there abouts. I NEED help. Let me know.

I am in the process of doing one right now.
But i have learned a couple things

You should use the whole engine bay wiring harness from the explorer as well as the explorer computer. This would make things easier
Because your ranger is older than 89 it would probably be easier to use the dash harness from the explorer also.

You need to start going through the threads and reading a lot... With those questions it doesn't seem like you have read very much
Read the tech library 4.0 swap example

Because it is an 87 and your going to an explorer harness things will be tricky but it is very possible

Yeah, I have read through plenty of threads and posts, we got the engine in and running, its just not running perfect. I didn't get much help from the engine swap example when I read it a few months ago… I appreciate the feedback though.

Get that second oxygen sensor installed correctly and I bet it will start running a lot better.

To do that I will need to replace the y-pipe so I can plug both sensor in, correct?

Yes. That would be the most efficient route.

Just go to the junk yard and nab one.
