Another swap. I currently own a 89 ranger ex cab xlt, 5 speed bad ticking 2.9 fm 145 second engine and trans. 400xxx kms on the truck. Purchased a 93 ranger single cab 4.0 5 speed flare side 160xxx kms. truck was bought new by the owners dad. Body is beat up frame is bent. I has a three inch body lift. Came with all service and maintence receits since new. About 3" when stacked. My plan is a complete swap, motor, trany and 3" lift. I know the 93 was different from other years, like the battery and fuse box on the other side. Question will have to change out the dash harness to make this swap a plug and play, I have read the forums about this swap and am finding conflictig stories, about the plug and play. Any help or encouragement would be great. Thanx Mark
 
It is best & easiest to change out the entire harness.
 
I put a 93 4.0 in my 86 B2 it's worked really good for me.I Don't like the 86 dash so I changed dashes.I also put the whole 93 wiring system in the 86.The lights and the fuel pumps are the only thing that are crimped to the 93 system.

Does mean the dash harnes as well. Iam not afraid of 12 volt wiring just looking for the easiest swap.

Exactly how we just did my buddy's 86. Used a 94 Ranger as a donor. Only tricky part was finding a way to mount the PCM in the fender like a gen 3 Ranger.

We even built a battery tray on the driver side like the Ranger.

Tailights have to be converted from 5 wire to 4 wire as well since 93-00 Rangers have a separate amber turn signal bulb on the rear. I used a universal Hoppy trailer adapter for the job.

Also, the Ranger column bracket didn't fit the firewall right, so we had to build our own. The dash pretty much bolts up, just had to drill a hole or two and make a few little braces.

would you be able to possibly get a pic or two of the braces for the column and for how you mounted the PCM?
 
Yea. The PCM is still in progress. Ill get a few tomorrow.

Took a while to get pics.

Here is what we cut out.

(Dont mind the rust, it has been dealt with now)

Then we made a box to weld in. And then added a triangle to fill in where we cut for plug clearance.

A cover will be bolted in with RTV to seal it up. To pull the ECU the fender has to come off, but its not like we change then out every day.

Ill get some underhood pics too.

Plan is to put the ECU in, then run a bead of RTV around the plug to seal it up.

Couldn't get decent pics of the column, it was dark. Basically just reused the various braces from the donor and the B2 and drilled mounting holes where ever we needed.
