Making Rollbars

I am not sure, should I use 1" or 3" PVC? And should I use PVC Glue or screws in the couplings? What is the easiest way to heat and bend PVC without scorching them, or maybe just use 45 degree and 90 degree fittings? How would you do it?
 
Why would you want PVC "ROLL BARS?"

Most the metal ones out there won't help anyway in the event of a rollover.

You just going for the Marty McFly look?
 
Grizzly makes one that fits perfect, I think you can pick one up for 300. A decent metal one for looks, and can hook 5 lights

Use 1", and be sure to fill it with great stuff foam for rigidity. Id use a normal, off the shelf heat gun to get the bends you need. Some say grade 5 bolts are fine for mounting to the frame but I'd go Grade 8, it's not that much more expensive.
 
I got my double tube Smittybilt rollbar that just needs repainted for $20 on Creigslist. PVC is cheap, but probably not that cheap plus a steel one won't degrade in the sunlight like PVC will.

putting grade 8 hardware on anything you need to fill with foam for rigidity might be the textbook definition of polishing a turd
 
Since its plastic I would think the rollbar is only for looks not for protection? Using grade 8 bolts to hold plastic to the frame???? Why waste the money, who care what holds the plastic rollbar to the bed since the plastic will break way before the bolts. I would use both bolt and the glue to hold it together, cause the bolts will help hold it together but the glue would make it sturdier. Plus be careful with the purple primer unles your going to paint it, because once its there its there.

Should I goto to my local auto paint center and have a matching paint color put on it once it is done? I know the guy that works there, he said he would do it under the table (no paperwork) for $100.
What type of lights would you suggest? KC Flamethrowers? I would like probably about 6 lights on it to make it look nice.

It doesn't matter what you assemble this thing with. It's not going to support squat.

And 1 inch? It's not even going to support the wind....

FYI, 3 inch is ABS, not PVC, and it's quite appropriately called "sewer pipe."

Make this out of STEEL, professionally designed and welded, and secure it to the frame, not the bed, or you might as well not do it.
 
$100 to paint a bunch of plastic?

A aftermarket steel one that goes in the bed will look much better, be much stronger and last much longer than a plastic one. If you are patent they are cheap and work great for holding lights.

If you are going to spend the money on paint and lights you might as well buy or make a steel one. That plastic is only going to break at the first pothole and look like crap, not to mention be useless.

I *hope* you are being silly. If your not joking then my advice to you is to save your penney's and use them to buy a real one....

I'm messing with ya guys!!!! I was at work and for some reason Stacey David's Purple Bronco came to mind,remember when he started to strip it down and got to the Roll Bars?? They had the pipe insulation on them? I started thinking, with twitches thread being locked about his seat in the bed and the welding rod in the mig so he could tig with the wrong gas.....well I just could not resist.......:icon_hornsup:
