ok so a buddy of mine found a 81 fire bird, all the inteior is there and in great shape, the body has been redone and needs paint, it has a fresh motor and trans, it is a v8 idk what v8 though. he has talked the guy down to 200, hes been trying to get rid of it fo 6 yrs and it was 1600$ do you guys think i should go for it?

I would find out what motor first. The popular motor for that year was a 301. I think he is a little high on the $ too. IMHO.....walk away you can find better.
 
If it's the stock original motor the car is gonna be dog slow and get HORRIBLE gas mileage.
 
well if its a stock motor i probley leave it be.
 
Huh? He wanted $1600 and you talked him down to $200?
 
If it can move under its own power it is worth $200.

You could part out the interior for that much.
 
well i went and looked at it and what he didnt tell me is that hes been driveing it and it has got a knock now. so i said skrew it......eventhough i want a car that will keep up with my friends 71 monte carlo at the drag strip:sad:
 
an stock 81 bird would not keep up with a 71 monte carlo.........

i have a 77 Trans Am with a 406ci
 
i wasnt gonna leave it stock, i was just gonna add a few things. his monte has headers,exaust,intake,carb,k'n'n air filter,msd distributer, and a mild cam. its also got a a auto tranny and 273 gears i think. i want to build something that will put his ass in his place lol:D
 
anyone got any ideas for something that i can build cheap? or with parts that are easy/cheap to get?
 
If it's a 301, that would be a knocking rod. They were notorious for that.
 
that car wouldnt beat an escort. go for a fox body mustang, best bang for a buck, very easy to find parts, i have two of 'em, '85 gt and '91 lx.....and two s197's, '07 and an '05 mustangs. four between me and my wife.

Find you a good fox body Mustang. You cold build that to keep up with that Monte. Does the Monte have the 402?
