Hello everyone. Has anyone swapped the 4x4 running gear(front Axles) from a 4x4 to a 4x2? I have an 89 4x4 short box ranger and a 91 4x2 ranger. I want to convert the 4x2 to 4x4. Reason being the chassis is gone on the 4x4. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. How big of a job is it?

this has been covered hundreds of times.

the engine crossmembers are different between 2wd and 4wd. you'll need to grind/cut the half dozen or so rivets off of both trucks and bolt the 4wd crossmember in. there are also slight discrepancies in spring tower height from what ive heard. you'll also have to swap in the 4wd trans and t-case.

Another words, unless you have professional skills and another vehicle to drive it's not even close to worth doing.

And yes i do have the professional skills, Certified Automotive Technician. this is gonna be a project for me so time is on my side. I also Drive a Mazda Tribute so there is the second vehicle. Reason for doing this is cause the 91 i have is a long box which my Grizzly fits just nicely. lol If you could direct me to some info it would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt you will find much info on it. It costs too much money and it is a big hassle, I think most swap in a solid axle or just trade the truck in on a 4WD.

Although, I am sure someone will come along who's done it soon.

i have all the parts i need. Only money spent would be on bolts and stuff to replace the rivots. I have 2 full trucks and a 89 bronco 11 scrapped and in boxes in my basement. Well the project starts as soon as the snow goes. I'l be sure to take lots of picks. Thanks again.
