Picked up a 7.5 rear today has a l/s or locker in it. never seen one like it, 3 coil springs on one side 2 on the other. any ideas on what i got?

I would suggest friction modifyer (or synthetic) for all types of l/s's...

I'm assuming you picked this up used. In that vain, used diffs with clutches typically do little that you expect them to do when you install them. The clutches are usually worn enough that very little if any locking takes place. I would suggest, while you have it out, you replace the clutches and possibly arrange the pack so you can add one extra.

Friction modifier is not needed on Torsen style setups.
