i have a 1990 ranger with a 2.9 manual trans how do i know what rear end to put in it i think my is going bad? Also is it hard to put one in?

It's bolt in, although I think there was a driveshaft flange change midway through your year.
You'll need to look at the axle tag and determine what axle & gear ratio you have now, then find one that matches.
