I found a great solution for a cheap bed mat for the Ranger.
Go to Tractor Supply and buy a 4x6 Stall mat ($40) and then just cut out for the fender wells with a jig saw. This mat is 3/4 inch rubber and is heavy! Must be close to 100 lbs. Makes the truck ride better and will add traction in winter (2wd) Also very protective. A good deal for $40!

Just did that myself 2 years ago for my 2006 Frontier XE pickup. Now I also have my project truck, 1992 Ranger Supercab XLT and did same for it. I used a Stanley cutting knife though it took 2 or 3 passes it worked fine. It's also a NO skid mat which keeps things from sliding around. I added 4 interior eye-bolts to the large stake holes using some old tapered shock washers outside for self centering and large flat washers inside for in-bed tie-downs too.
