as a birthday gift from my wife i just got a 2005 ford ranger xlt. its the V6 but im not sure if its 3.0 or 4.0. its just going to be a daily driver and go getter for things around the new house. ive visited other forums but once i hit the Tech Library i was blown away at the amount of info on here.

It'll say on the emissions/belt routing sticker on the core support above the radiator, or on the motor itself. there'll either be a big black box that says "4.0 SOHC" or it'll say 3.0 on the valve covers.
 
Welcome...it will also say it on the highway...the 4.0 goes vroom vroom...and the 3.0 goes "eh?"...most of them have Canadian roots...:)
