First off I know there are a million threads already created for tires. So heres the deal my truck is a 2004 ranger 2wd xlt with the 7ft bed 3.0 v6, Gibson cat back exhaust, kn CAI, stock suspension and wheels coil overs not torsion crank with 225/75/r15. So I moved from nice dry arid Il to wi, and well wi has tons of f***************ing snow!! even now in may(wi actually is awesome just 2wd in snow sucks). so I wanted to get a different tire setup to deal with the snow cause the dealership goodridesaeen't cutting it. since asecond set of rims isn't an option due to space it's gonna be all terrians. may questions goes to getting bigger tires, I never liked how low my truck sat but it was fine for Il. i do want anything huge just a couple inchs or something, so what size would you recommened to go up to , I have a programmer so I can redo the speedo and the abs :). However my worries come to the fact that this is my dd, Ilove the way my truck handles, and that I can conor carve better than some small cars, I will also tow and haul with this truck regulary so i don't want to affect that to much as well, and good gas milaeage is nice as well, i relize bigger tires came with less mileage and kill some torgue but you do make it up on the top end since their bigger. and in my opion the 3.0 has great torque just no top end, (sorry for allot he haters i think the 3.0 is great it's built like a tank). as for the brakeing issues, the fx4 and edge have bigger tires and the rotor and brake assembly part numbers are the same as the xlt, so I guess ford din't hink it was an issue. thginking of getting 255/70/15 which would put my at 29.1" according to the calculator. would this fit on my ranger with no rubbing/ problems? Or should I go bigger? Like I said this is a dd and and has to have a very fine line drawn, I love my ranger and would kill to have 33" inch tires huge lifts etc.. But i have other bills to pay.

So basically what size would you recommened for uping a 2004 2wd xlt 3.0 v6 that is a dd and wouldn't hurt gas power to much, and wouldn't require a lift or anything major. the trucka lready has some minor power mods.

Just on a personal note, they don't actually make a body lift for a ranger with a 7ft bed, I have having the extra length but it's a b**** to find parts.

Thanks for all the help advice and guidance, awesome forum that I'm very proud to be a member of .

also if you have pics of what the tires would look like that would be awesome

thanks again

is anyone else having as hard of a time reading that as i am?

Sorry I'm on my lunch breaking and typing from a kindle

and I can't type ( shows what a 40,000 education buys you)

Well I had no problem reading that but I'm another one originally from Ill and in Wis. now. First, for snow, you should not go larger, different than sand or mud. I live out in the country and road doesn't get plowed real quick. I got by a couple of years ago with my 2000 3.0L 4x2 with a set of 235-70/15 Blizzacks, ran them all around. Weight is usually needed even with a 4x4 here. Where abouts in Wis are you at now?

North an eau Clarie, close to Chippewa. old farm house out in the middle of nowhere. and yeah I was wondering about that, I just would like it to sit about an inch higher, but would just a different tread make all the difference, because I don't want a huge lift, and really I don't even know if 1-2 inches is worth all the repercussions.I do have 5 70 pound bags of sand in the rear when it snows. It just my boss says get here and I'm expected to be there.so better snow about with an inch higher would be nice, but snow ability overall is whats critical.I don't off road I just wish it sat a tiny bit higher, funny when all the sandbags are in there it sits just right.:icon_rofl:

If you live in Wisconsin you should buy a 4wd

I imagine no limit slip in it either, that's a big help. I might have gone with a 215/75 tire if there were any available at the time. Even with a 4x4 and a locker, I haven't made it out of the driveway before. There are others from your area here at site that might give better advice for your area. Justs saw that someone suggested a 4x4, I've got one now just for Winter and yard work.

would be nice, but seeing how owe 6 grand on this truck don't see that happening. currently have 225/75/15 stock, maybe just get those in all terrains and a lim slip?

or just go with my fail safe over carrying a big shovel in the bed

Read the red and you'll be good. :icon_confused:

I know the all terrains would be good since I do drive on light hunting, trails I just leave the heavy stuff for my Yamaha tw

Buy studded snow tires if your that worried.

My first truck was a 2wd Dakota that was an auto. It was lower than your range. I had bfg a/ts on it and cheap good year tires. I also had minimal weight in the bed.granted It was a long bed.

I got around just find in it. I just had to take my time driving and at the same time had to put my foot into it from time to time.

Good tires and learning to drive you'll be fine.

depends on what gears your truck has.

btw, rangers never came with "coil-overs"
