What tranny do i have?

i have an 88 4x4 5speed ranger with a 2.9l. can anyone tell me what i have and if it might hold up to a 5.0 any help would be great. i have a very limited budget so im trying to get something going with not much money.

Most likely an FM146 and no it won't hold up to a V8, it can hardly hold up to a 2.9L.

There is no RBV standard transmission that will mate to a V8 without adapter plates.

My 88 with 2.9 4x2 had the MR1 in it

ok thanks guys...this is a learning experience for me lol...so what is a good standard transmission for a 302? i dont know anything about transmissions im trying to learn as much as i can so help me out lol...
