I bought a 2000 Ranger last month for my daughter. It's the XLT extra cab, 3.0 flex and 5 speed manual. It had 189,000 miles on it and rode pretty bad, had very little power.
The day I bought it:

Taught daughter how to change spark plugs, oil and filters, shocks and sway bar end links. The truck also had surged in rpms while shifting when I bought it. After changing the plugs, cleaning the MAF and IAT sensors, no more problems with surging. Also did the throttle cable mod. Truck has much better power now. Just had to change out the front parking brake cable, as it broke where the cable comes through the floorboard/firewall. What a pain that was, lol

This site has been very helpful in my troubleshooting of this truck. Next up is figuring out why the dome light won't come on when doors are opened, and changing the left turn indicator bulb in the cluster.

Forgot to subscribe to my own thread, lol. Changed options settings so all good now.

Thanks for the welcome y'all. Actually, am in the DFW area until Sunday or so. Have some work to do between Ft Worth and Decatur. Drove the Ranger up here today. Ran fine, but noticed a creaking/popping noise from the front when full lock to left turn. Sounds like a bad CV joint. Only problem is this is a 2 wheel drive truck! lol. Something else to check on when I get home.

Oh, normal neck'o the woods is Wharton, about 60 miles SW of Houston.

We have at least one member in your neck of the woods. If you do a search for DFW meet you'll get updates on when/where we will be.
