Ford Ranger and a Bronco II fuel tanks the same?

I needed a fuel sending unit for my '84, and the ONLY store that had it was O'reillys, but they list it for a Bronco II, they ordered it, and won't be in for a day. I understand that the BII had a auxillary gas tank, and I thought I read in the forums that the tanks are different depths.

So anyone know off hand if the sending units are the same?
 
Nope they are similar though. The Ranger tank is 17 gal and the BII is 23gal. The BII tank is taller. I'm not too sure if it will work or not.

Actually the Ranger AUX tank (if equipped) is 13gallons compared to 23gal for the bronco2 tank...

The Bronco2 tank is both taller, by nearly 6", as well as about 5" longer front to back.

The sending unit isn't even remotely similar...

I had a Ranger aux tank and a BII tank side by side, and they were the same length, width, and shape. Only difference was the depth.

Okay I took my old sending unit into O'Reilly's, and compared it to the B2, the ONLY difference was above that varable resistor was 2-3" more tube.

So If I HAD to I could chop up a new $60 sender, so I checked elsewhere, NAPA, CarQuest, Parts Plus, AutoZone, NOBODY had it, so I figured, well surely FORD would have this, right?

WRONG! I asked them, discontinued! and they ONLY HAD sending units for the diesel rangers! :dunno:

So my Uncle made a trailer out of a Ranger bed, and maybe, MAYBE he has the sending unit and the tank. Yes he did, however the Sending unit has a different connector.

His '85 Ranger that came with a 4cyl just has threaded pins ontop of his sender, on my br0ken one, the wiring harness clips/snaps into the sender connector(a molded plastic thing)

So will his sender out of a '85 with a 4 cylinder motor work in my '84 with a 2.8 v6?

Why are the connectors different?

was the '85 4 cylinder carburated or fuel injected?
 
It was carbed, all I can think of is they changed the connectors, or a improved design?
