Men arrested after deputy finds calf in backseat

CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico authorities have arrested three men found with a 220-pound calf in the backseat of their car.
The Carlsbad Current Argus reports that the men are accused of cattle rustling. They were jailed on charges of suspicion of larceny of livestock, conspiracy, lack of a bill of sale and exporting livestock.

Luna County sheriff's office says a deputy pulled over their Honda Civic on Friday and saw the animal sharing the backseat with one of the alleged thieves.

The three are being held at the Luna County Detention Center

Dave - up here there would be a 95% chance alcohol was involved

Anyone knows you can't do that with a Honda Civic. You need a truck to pull that off.

:D

I heard there are bulls going for $2,000 at auction in Texas. I guess branding is a wise choice right now.

Hmmmm...nobody would suspect a Honda Civic of holding cattle in it....lol. I wish I had a picture of that....lol. I did once put one of our miniature ponies in the back of my Subaru when the trailer lost a wheel once. I had a friend who was staying with us and I called him and he brought my Subaru GL 3 door (hatchback) and we put Little Reb in the back and got him back home. Good thing he did not pee or poo that time!!! I wish I did take a picture of that, but I was more concerned with getting him home from the vet and it was a long day. You should have seen the people looking at us with wide open mouths as we drove in traffic.....that was a once in a lifetime adventure with his cute little face sticking out the window like a puppy dog!!!

That would have been cool if you had a sunroof and his head was sticking out. Here is the question we these guys that stole the calf drunk? That would explain it all.

:icon_rofl:

Reminds me of the time I had a Skoda...I was dog sitting a huge German Shepherd and had to go visit my sister...

When I got there my BIL gave me a bike and a few other things that he wanted to get rid of...so with my 4 door Skoda fully loaded with the bike in the back seat and a few boxes on the floor and other junk (trunk is on the front and was full also) I squeezed the dog into the front seat and managed to get in and drive back home...

As for the OP...I could believe it was for the meat...because they probably couldn't steel a full grown beef cow in a Honda they probably thought they could get the calf...but I'd imagine they were probably pulled over because the rear end was dragging...lol

Mark, please tell me your Skoda looked like this:

I can't imagine what a 240# calf would do in a car...

LOL....I saw the cow in the side car years ago. That was funny. It was custom made for the cow. I remember the article on that story. t was mentioned on the Today Show as well.

Cattle Russling?

The only thing I think of when I see a calf is VEAL...
I don't eat veal, I know how it's made...:bawling:

Straycat,
What a great looking cat!

If that where to happen up here we wouldn't be reading about it because no one would have gotten caught! But yes, around these parts, alcohol would definitely be involved.
