I have look at a quite a few older ranger bodies for my 07 ranger.

I looked at a mint 93 but the firewall was much different, most important the routing of heating/ ac and wiring. Fenders and so on. Not looking to do much fabrication.

What would be the best year for a body swap?

The older suspensions were better though.

Ya it was. I don't get why things get changed and modified when they work great and are reliable. In my eyes, it's like getting a new hip when your only 30 years old for no reason.

The reasons for it are long, convoluted, and valid. It basically boils down to better ride quality. Pretty much every suspension down grade Ford has done to the strength of it's suspension systems on the light trucks and SUVs has been done in the name of ride quality because people buy these things to use as commuters, not utility vehicles, and then bitch when they don't ride like luxury cars.

I'm serious, in school when we did suspension class our prof told us about the early to mid 90s when people would come in complaining that the pickup truck they just bought rode like a pickup truck.

I have the 98+ suspension and mine still rides like a dump truck. However, I do fully understand that it is in fact a truck and not a sports car.
