Today I was piddling on my daughter's 98 Ranger. The back of the cab has been leaking and that's a sign of a leaking center brake light. The previous owner had siliconed the snot out of it though so I was amazed it was leaking. I took it off and after looking at it I started to wonder how well sealed the joint between the lens and the black base was? To test I decided to kiss it! I just put my lips on it and blew! On the left side it's sealed up tight but on the right side by where the red and white lenses join I can blow through it with little effort! It doesn't appear you can take those lenses out to seal that joint so I'm thinking it's time for a whole new assembly. Is an OEM assembly the move here or would one of the new LED assemblies on fleaBay work? Would anyone who's replaced the whole assembly care to comment on what they've used and how it works?

For now I think I'll slater a little clear silicone on it and call it good.

I'll try to attach a picture with an arrow pointing to the seam that's leaking.

The stock housings are garbage. I replaced mine with an LED one from Putco. No silicone, no more crappy 912 style light bulbs, and I now have cargo lights. Mine was expensive (about $80) but the quality is outstanding. I don't know the quality of the eBay ones.
