Just got a set of 1988 power doors off a ranger. I pulled the whole harness including the fuse panel and all the way across to the large round connector at the drivers side firewall. The question is, on my 1990 ranger, do I have to change this whole harness out or can I just pull what I need? The reason I dont want to change the whole thing is that a few wires were cut before I got to it and it has two horns and I only have one, and everyone else talks about installing a fuse, but if you used the whole harness and fuse panel off the donor vehicle, shouldnt it already have a fuse in place? Any help would be appreciated.
 
I think your best approach would be to pull the doors' wiring out of the '88 harness, and then install just that wiring into the '90, on top of its existing wiring harnesses.
 
would i just have to trace the wires from the two plugs at each fender and then add 1 wire into the fuse box. Also some people have talked about having a relay for this, I did not find a relay for it in the 1988 wiring harness.?

its on the pass. side fenderwell with the cpu and fuel relays
 
I think this truck must have been a late 88, the door sticker was 88, but it had the dash and lights like my 92. There was no wires going from the headlight harness to the relay box on this truck. Unless it was a harness i unplugged from the headlight harness, if this is the case i have to go back to the bone yard and get it. And if this is an 89, is it different, from what i could tell about the wiring diagrams, the 89 didnt have relays and the 88 did. Im really appreciating all the help.

If it's a second generation ('89-'92 body style) there won't be any relays (only a few models of early RBVs had power doorlock relays only).

Based on helping another guy here, I think you can just separate the two door harnesses out from the rest of the donor wiring, and then install the harnesses into your truck along with the lock actuators, window regulators and motors, and the switch assemblies. Once all of that's been transplanted, you're only needing two power connections- constant power for the locks and accessory power for the windows.

See if this diagram helps you out any.

so I have a 87 supercab and a 93 explorer. I'm going to do the 4.0 swap and dash swap so I'll use all of the explorer wiring. There's a 88 ranger with power locks/doors that i'm going to snatch up. my question is if I use the explorer wiring, how hard will it be to splice(?) into the explorer harness?

Mattie- What you're doing won't be bad at all. You'll see, once you get the '88 parts and the '93 wire harnesses into the '87 Ranger, it's just simple splices, two wires per window motor and actuator. If you run into trouble, or have other questions, just make a new post with the particulars. Good luck!
