anybody do the mercedes om617 swap?

Ive got a 1990 4x4 ranger and want to convert to diesel, mercedes seems like a good motor for the swap. If anybody has done the swap id like to hear about any trouble you ran into and how you coupled the motor to the trans?

A friend of mine did it in his 92 4Runner with a custom trans adapter. He sold it a while back after going through 2 or 3 transmissions.

Another friend of mine is considering doing it to his 94 Ranger.

I have considered doing this swap and I think the best way to handle the transmission is just to use a M50D-R1 behind the om617 with a special made adapter plate, like Sunk mentioned. If you tried to use the Mercedes tranny you would still run into trouble adapting it to mate up to your transfercase, plus you would have to use an automatic transmission since the om617 only came with automatics in the US.
