I have a 94 Ranger with only 80,000 miles but it has driven me nuts by not starting at times. It was towed in 3 times and nothing could be found. After it wouldn't start in my driveway my wife went on line and found the cure which my ace mechanics including my local dealer couldn't find. Fuel pump relay!! If you turn on the key and you do not hear the fuel pump turn on, go under the hood in the fuse box and swap one relay for another and Voila, the fuel pump will work and the truck will start. My new relay cost $12.00 and since Sept.2011 the truck has started and run fine, and I now get where I'm going!! I had 3 other 94 Ford products and they have a limited computer system that won't find this flaw, but I'm not sure if the newer systems would find this. If it doesn't show on the OBD everyone just throw's up there hands.
My Ranger is a 2wd 4.0 Super Cab, I hope this helps someone.

Welcome to TRS~!

Just started and already you're a valuable source of information...it's always something simple...well, almost always...anyway, I hope it does help someone...and I'm sure it will...but there are many possible solutions to some problems and, unfortunately, we have sometimes have to go through every option before we find an answer...

Been there, done that...and I've got the receipts to prove it...lol

Glad you got it figured out, to bad it cost you 3 tows. There are only 3 things that make an internal combustion engine run, air, fuel and spark. When it don't run, gotta be one of those 3. When I turn the key to on I hear a whirr for about 2 seconds. I know my fuel pump is working then. :icon_cheers:
