i like your autocad drawing. and it will definitly work.
i'm looking at making some for my b2. but i think i'm going to do it a little differently. feel free to steal any ideas or tell me why i shouldn't do whatever it is. but i think a tube door needs to be low and out of the way. but the back needs to be just high enough to catch ur hip if you were to somehow try to fall out. but the front needs to be open so visibility is max. i want to make a set that looks like my regular half doors. but the angles i want to match the front angle down. and the latch is prob going to be low so as my truck gets bigger i can still open the door easily. i might add a tab to mount a light that i can shine on the front tire for nite wheeling too. and for shits and giggles i want to make them suicide.
here is my regular half doors.

Im going with a similar design as spdcrazy. Except with gen3 ranger doors. Whats important to me though, is since we dont have a tub like a heep. Yes I like the fact that a heep has a tub, I want my doors to seal well on the bottom so that i dont have anything slide out off of my floor.
I really like that tube door design, I would place a piece of plexiglass between the bottom and middle tube.

ya i think im going to put in some plexi glass from the bottom to the diagnal bar to keep shit in and keep mud and water of the pant legs, no one likes wet pants lol. also thought the rollbar padding was a good idea for a comfy armrest. i just got the latchs finished up today fab'd up a system so you can unlatch them with a handle on the inside of the door ill get some picks up tomorrow of that.

another way to keep the tube doors open but keep ur stuff inside and the water and mud out. is to put some little snaps on it. and have a small piece of fabric attached to it. but that all depends on how the doors are designed aswell.

anything works! but i see that its missing a very valuable thing...
:icon_pepsi: cup holders! easy solution tho. clip on ones fabbed from pvc pipe! cap it and then enjoy with your favorite beverage... just be sure its not coffee. it gets cold really quick in the mornings with all that cold air.

make sure that if you plan to change to full doors during the cold season, that you make some quick disconnects for the speaker wire. thats why i don't have any speakers in my doors.. any of them.
you guys got me thinking, and last nite i took off my doors completely.. OMG i love it. so now i think i'm going to build a easy square tube door. i'm not much for drawing on my computer since i have no cad software (wish i did)
but what i'm going to do is use some square tube, because i'm just starting with welding, and square is just easier. but i will make a piece that will attach to the stock door hinges. and than have a 90 back on the bottom next to the floor. this makes an L. than i'll have a piece coming from the top next to the hinge.. ahhh this is too difficult..

haha sweet drawing. windows paint is helpful and easy to use. Cad is sweet but its over a grand for the software. that why i use the computers up at ohio state

ya funny thing about my lovely dell laptop tho... it doesn't have paint.. haha. good thing i'm a pro at drawing. i think my bottom bar might be moved up just a bit. and i could use some plexiglass like someone said eariler. that would keep my shit stuff and things inside!
now to find the steel. cheap....

bought my pipe 1 1/4" ID x.140 DOM tubing. it was fun hauling 11ft pieces of pipe in the ranger an hour down the interstate. had to get creative.

Yeah it is a truck from a SEMA show. I'm not a fan of the overall truck but there are a few things I like.

from what i see so far so good for light wheelin and mall crawlinz....and fine if your never gonna use the doors again.
but for tube doors to be effective...and to cover the point in having them, you want them protecting the b pillar as well. they need to be out so they slide the pillar past the ledge/tree/whatever. real easy to mangle the pillar to the piont it has to be fixed to put the doors back on.
rangers are pretty good in that if you have your doors on and lay it over and smash the balls out of it the doors will generally still function...windowless naturally but they will open and close. nicer trucks really need to consider this as they will enhance the capability or the truck if set up right...which means you can actually run challenges you would never dare try with the doors on.
tube doors are not just for cool factor.:c-n:
so build them OUT....protect the pillar!!!!:buttkick:

they are going on a 2wd so so i think if it gets to a point were the pillar would get crushed the truck would be really stuck lol

so i got ambitious and built a set of doors.. used a 110 wire feed welder and some thin 1 1/2in tube.. it was built to be easy to build and easy of welding since i just learned last week. let me know what ya think...

I'm looking for inspiration, my AC doesn't work and I can't see spending 1100 bucks to fix the AC in a $500 pickup. $30-50 on tube, on the other hand, I can do. So I was looking for finished pics.

Well from what I've gotten figured out from the first four posts, these went on colinrmitchels truck.
So if you paid attention to last months TOTM.. he was a nominee. Plus the doors are in his Avatar. *if I'm not mistaken*

some years ago the dot got sick of me running no doors(i had pin in mirrors though)mostly a particular lady made me put some tube...bar/anything on.
main problem i was pulling the doors because
the main area i had to extract from caused window damage in my doors, and my truck has a bigger motor and is hot as hell inside as well....no doors works perfect in summer, and when wheelin its real nice.
i just used some simple hoops to help protect the pillar and dot left me alone.
if the rest of my truck was legal i would have just run the sill plates and mirrors, but its not(never will be either) so there was no being a pisshead about it for me.:icon_twisted:
but i still want ac someday.......someday;missingteeth;
i dont have any current pics, but you may get an idea from these. it can be as simple or complicated as one wants, like most mods. its the only way to wheel...
