My credo
the grey-t escape
any advantages, aside from going down to 2 u-joints & losing the carrier bearing? my rearmost u-joint is needing replaced, was contemplating switching to a 1-peice driveshaft. i dont have any vibration issues, just wondered if it would be worth the trouble. has the original u-joints now, chances are a new set will last the rest of the life of the truck. far as i know the carrier bearing is still in good shape.

No, the carrier bearing delete is the primary purpose of the one-piece swap. I can't really think of any other benefits.

The other benefit is if you lift your Ranger. Having a one piece driveshaft helps to spread the increased driveline angle over a longer length, rather than the shorter rear section of driveshaft having an extreme angle. Other than that, I think that's the only two benefits. I did it on my '90 Ranger and I like the peace of mind knowing that I never have to replace the awful (and expensive, IIRC) carrier bearing again, mine was completely shot when I upgraded a few years back.

Slight increase in torque....less maintenance.... + what they said!
