Locker question

Ok, I have an 8.8 open rear end with 3.73 gear ratio. What lock will work in the rear end or a recommendation for a good one? If you need more info, just ask me. I'm not doing it now, but would like to pre-plan now for the future.

Are you looking for a drop in or a full carrier locker? A Lock-Right, Aussie and I think Spartan will drop in, and an Eaton, Detriot or ARB will replace the carrier.

I had a Lock-Right and I liked it over all except the ratcheting around corners. A lot of people like Aussies.

If you can get your hands on some Explorer (31spl) axle shafts I'd try a Ox Locker. If not Eaton and ARB make good selectable lockers for your truck.

Last time I checked they didnt make a 28 spline Aussie locker for the 8.8 :icon_confused:

Nor a Spartan.

If it were mine, Lock-Right for a lunchbox locker, Detroit for a full carrier replacement.

Bringer and hahns are right about the no Aussie or spartan for the 8.8 unfortunately

for your 8.8 maybe... if you get a real 8.8... you can get either. and either is a good option. i have an aussie.

edit: idk if spartan has came out w/ their 8.8 locker yet...?

A REAL 8.8? The OP might want you to clarify that one. I believe you mean a 31 spline 8.8? :icon_confused:

then there's full width's.. but i was speaking of the 31 spline.

idk why the 28 spline doesn't get any love. :icon_confused:

do the companies not realize a lot of people want a drop in locker for their rangers? :icon_confused:

Kind hard to believe seeing how many Mustangs and other cars run the 8.8 28 spline. Guess lot of the Stang people just go full locker.

most people want to replace the carrier also, being as that is the weak point.
carrier and spiders are the weak point. :icon_thumby:

so a full detroit would fix that.

Depends on how much you wanna spend:

A drop in "lunch-box" style locker is gonna run $250-$500. Price & home install being the upside, quirks being the downside.

A full carrier replacement is going to be much more since shop labor will be needed to transfer and reset up the ring gear. Consider $750 plus 2-3hrs of shop time MINIMUM. With and ARB or Eaton E-Locker, this can add up to over $1200 easily. Their are many upsides though.

but a lot of people, myself included, can't swing the extra money for the amount of wheeling i do. an aussie's street manners are great... most people that down an aussie for street, are the people that's never had them. lock rites (from what i hear) make a little more noise, but are completely doable.
