Did I Get The Right Napa Slave???

i ordered a new slave for my truck today from napa through the parts department at the dealer i work for...it got here and it looks nothing like the napa one's i've seen guys running here on the TRS, it looks exactly like the cheap POS autozone one i bought and that i'm having trouble with (leaking after ~500 miles of use)

The napa part number is NCF 73002B. Unfortunately, using the search engine and vehicle make/model/engine/etc filters on napas website theres only two slave cylidners they sell for my truck (the one they just sent me either with, or without the TOB). Should i run this slave? Should i return it for a different one? I just dont want to put another chinese POS back into my truck and have to rip the trans out AGAIN.

I was kinda expecting the one with the neoprene boot around it..:bawling:
 
There is a NCF 73003B (i have the NCF 73002B), but i'm not sure if it's made for the 2.9s (or 4.0s) nor am i sure it will fit. Is this the one with the neprene for contamination protection? Is it possible that the part number superceeded into NCF 73003B?:icon_confused:
 
Slave cylinders go by "year range" more than "engine"

There are three "internal" slave cylinders used on RBV's

The First earliest type is aluminum and has a "hairpin clip" to retain the line.
These were only used from 1985-87

The SECOND type is also aluminum and BOLTS inside the bellhousing
and was used from 1988-92. This one uses a "dry break" connector that
is colored either RED or Black (the Black often fades to a purplish color).

The third type is the "Plastic" slave, it is actually made from Glass reinforced Nylon thermoplastic. These were used from 1993-up (on Rangers AND F-series trucks)
these use a "gold/Yellow colored connector this connector is NOT compatible with
the clutch line used on the 1988-92 style slave cylinder.

Sometime later, 1998-ish ford added a rubber bellows boot over the spring but the slave itself is not materially different through to (SFAIK) current production

So are you saying we should order a slave for a '98+ and get the fancy boot over it? And it'll fit 93-97 Rangers?

To the OP: I have heard that if you get one from the Ford Stealership it does seem to hold up better.
