Got the 146 out today, assuming the input shaft would be loose, ......it wasn't, can it still be bad with no play? I'm getting the noise that sounded like a though out bearing, put in a clutch kit, new slave , still had the noise, can anyone help with this? This is my dd so I need it Monday! Got the M5OD ready to put in but I was hoping for a defiant problem

Maybe the pilot bearing? Just a thought.
Was the noise with the clutch in or all the time or what?

In gears 123 and 5 goes away when u push in the clutch, when not moving

My trans makes noise in 123 and 5, quiet in 4. But lately it's been hard to get it into 4th.. grinds and you gotta pretty much shift without using the clutch.. This common on the 146?

I swapped out the 146 for a M50D, I haven't heard many good things about the 146, know I can actually hear the engine,

I'd love to swap mine out, but I don't have the time. And it's just a 3rd soon to be 4th vehicle for me :)

i just got my bronco back together and i am having the same problem with my 146. All new clutch components pilot and throw out bearings, pressure plate, friction disk, fly wheel turned. input shaft was tight when installed. I have noise in 1,2,3 silent in 4 a little noise in 5.I know this is wishful thinking but is the noise typical of these tranys?

Eh, noise isn't so normal. Given that it's silent in 4th I'd say you have issues with the counter shaft bearings.
